Singing & STEM
Hi! I'm Sydney.
Music is a universal language that transcends geography, culture, and age. Everyone is musical in some way or another--it is as much a feature of our humanity as walking upright or speech. I love working with children because in childhood (especially early childhood) most of us have not yet internalized insecurities around free, creative expression. We draw because we like it, we dance without inhibition, and we sing without fear of judgement. It is a divine energy to experience, and working with children reminds me to be a little more fearless.
I moved to Amsterdam from New York City three years ago, and I am currently in my third year of the Jazz Voice department of the Conservatory of Amsterdam. I am also a certified primary school teacher, and have been teaching children for 7 years. I specialize in bilingual education and am specifically trained to work with bilingual children who speak English as a second or third language.
I believe that we learn by doing, we learn while playing, we learn through experimentation and self-reflection. As such, my teaching style prioritizes student-led exploration. I see myself as a facilitator for your child's musical interests and aspirations, and I plan our lessons accordingly.
